The backup camera has helped prevent many accidents since its integration became popular on cars.  These small cameras allow reversing drivers to see behind their vehicles, helping them notice any cars or pedestrians – especially small children and animals – passing by.  Since backup cameras in cars gained popularity, the percentage of severe backover accidents dropped significantly.

Hyundai works diligently to ensure the safety of its drivers.  They have continually added safety features over the years, eventually creating Hyundai SafetySense.  One feature Hyundai offers is a backup camera on its vehicles, and with SafetySense they have enhanced their backup cameras even further.

The Elantra has been in Hyundai’s lineup for many years.  Does the Elantra offer a backup camera?  If so, what years began to offer this feature?  Carolina Hyundai can help.

2022 Hyundai Elantra

The 2022 Elantra introduced its new N trim.  This sporty new model offers either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic.  It comes with features such as Blue Link and Digital Key, and a long list of standard features.  The 8-inch infotainment system is great for its wireless Apple CarPlay, as well as a backup camera.

This year’s Elantra comes with a standard backup camera on all models.

2021 Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai completely remodeled the Elantra in 2021.  During the remodel, the GT hatchback trim ended up getting discontinued.  The new Elantra has coupe-like styling and is longer, wider, and lower to the ground than the former models.  It also boasts impressive gas mileage – the standard Elantra getting 43 mpg on the highway.

The 2021 Elantra provides a standard backup camera for every model.

2020 Hyundai Elantra

The 2020 Elantra provides consumers with a long list of standard features at a reasonable price.  This includes many safety features, which is why the IIHS named the Elantra a Top Safety Pick for the year.  The car also comes with multiple advanced features for the year, such as wireless charging and a power trunk that opens when the key fob is detected near it for multiple seconds.

The 2020 Elantra has a backup camera standardized on every model.

2019 Hyundai Elantra

With a refreshed styling, the 2019 Elantra packs a ton of standard features into a small package.  There are six available models, including the GT hatchback trim.  On top of the many standard features that this vehicle offers, many available features may be added.  This includes safety features like driver drowsiness monitoring, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, and more.

While those features are available to add on, a backup camera is standard on every model.

2018 Hyundai Elantra

The 2018 Elantra is the second year in the 6th generation of the vehicle.  It has above-average cargo capacity compared to its competitors, and gets great gas mileage as well – with 32 mpg in the city and up to 40 mpg on the highway.

In 2018, the Department of Transportation mandated that all cars were required to have backup cameras in them as of May 1st.  That being said, since the 2018 models of vehicles go into production the year before, the backup camera did not become readily available on all models for this year.

The backup camera is available on the SEL trim and above for the 2018 Elantra.

2017 Hyundai Elantra

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra was completely redesigned to begin the new generation of the vehicle.  It introduced a new sport model to bring a new level of performance to the vehicle, as well as new available engine models.  The Limited model of the Elantra offers the power-operated trunk, Infinity audio, and auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection, giving it a high-end feel compared to the other models.

The Elantra offers the backup camera as an option on every trim except for the SE manual.

2016 Hyundai Elantra

In 2016, the Elantra shuffled around some features.  It added the Value Edition package to the SE trim and gave the Limited trim a standard proximity key and dual automatic temperature control.  The Sport trim lost its sunroof and leather seating, while the GT gained a new front-end styling and more.

A backup camera is offered on the Elantra for every trim except for the SE manual and hatchback manual.

2015 Hyundai Elantra

The 2015 Elantra released three new option packages to bring more features to the vehicle.  It also offers more exterior paint colors to choose from.  Other than that, the Elantra did not change much from the 2014 model.  The vehicle offers many features that give it a top of the line feel at an affordable price point, such as heated rear seats.

In 2015, the Elantra offered the backup camera as an option on every trim except for the SE manual.
